Wednesday. Thompson also asks that a receiver be appointed to oversee the businesses. A criminal investigation by the Birmingham Police Department is also continuing. Thompson said as many as 5,000 women tost their deposits, or are in danger of doing so, and that their losses total about $1 million. The stores owned by the Gottschlings are the Boulevard Bridal Salon, the Sue Gordon Bridal Salon and Today's Bride, all in Birmingham, and the Kitty Kelly Bridal Salons in Troy and Dearborn.

By LL Brasier Fm Press Suff Writer A judge Tuesday ordered the owners of a string of suburban bridal salons, accused of bilking thousands of women out of down payments, to stop taking gown deposits. The Oakland County Prosecutor's Office on Tuesday sued Gary and Donna Gottschling of Birmingham, charging they were violating state consumer protection laws with their "unfair, unconscionable and deceptive business practices." The Gottschlings took deposits on dresses they knew they could not supply, did not return the deposits, and sold used or sample dresses as new, according to the suit. "It was a blatant and deceptive business practice," said Prosecutor Richard Thompson. "A wedding is an emotional and hectic time in a woman's life, and these individuals were preying on them." Neither the Gottschlings nor their attorneys could be reached. Tuesday's court order by Oakland County Circuit Judge Richard Kuhn allows the Gottschlings to continue to operate their five stores but prohibits them from taking deposits on dresses.

Thompson said three stores are closed. The law allows Thompson to seek m. instate at cnurcn a m. sltation Wednesday 4-1 and Akeno, Catherine Ashley, Josephine Benyo, Ernest A. Brown, Elizabeth Burt Margaret J.

Memorial oldest son after a lengthy illness. He was 81. Mr. Park was born in Ft. Wayne, in 1910 and moved with his family to Flint when he was 9.

After attending Flint Junior College, he began his radio career in 1930 at WTDF in Flint. In 1941 he moved to WJR, where he became chief announcer in 1950. He hosted several shows, such as "Time Out For Music," "Mother's Album," and "The Telephone Quiz." He also worked as play-by-play announcer with WJR sports director Van Patrick in 1948-52, covering University of Michigan football. But he probably is best remembered for his 25-year stint as Guest's commercial announcer and sidekick on "The Sunny Side of the Street." McCarthy recalled that it was Park who hired him at WJR in 1958. "He was a wonderful, affable fellow and was like a foster father to me," McCarthy said.

"He always had a great story for you and a great smile." After his retirement, Mr. Park moved to Florida, then back to Michigan in 1982. In 1985, he moved to Arkansas. Mr. Park is survived by sons Charles Jr.

Saturday 10 a m. Vlslta for the sympathetic farmhand. Jesse H. Newton 60, died of congestive heart failure Sunday in his sleep at his Detroit home, said his brother, Louis. "My favorite picture of Jesse," said Millan, producing director of the Detroit Repertory Theatre, "is this big man sitting in the hay with hands between his knees in childlike fashion laughing.

"He had such a nice sympathy, a softness to him, and in a big man that was a rare kind of quality. He quickly got the audience on his side." Mr. Newton debuted as Lennie in March 1972. Actor James Earl Jones played the role on Broadway 2xh years later. Over the years, Mr.

Newton appeared in several plays at Detroit Repertory Theatre. Among his best-remembered roles was as the South African shopkeeper John Kumalo in the Kurt Weill-MaxweU Anderson South African musical, "Lost in the Stars." He played the leading role of Yank Smith in "The Hairy Ape" and also appeared in "The Threepenny Opera," "Morning's at Seven," "The Petrified Forest," "Both Your Houses" and, most recently, "Disability: A Comedy." "Once, he had a bit part in a movie and I talked with him about Hollywood," his brother said. "But he said no, he was a local actor, and that was all he was ever going to be, and he was very happy about that." When he wasn't acting, Mr. Newton was a traffic supervisor for the American Red Cross. He recently retired after almost 20 years.

Born in Detroit, Mr. Newton attended Miller High School and served two years in the Navy. He began acting at Concept East Theatre, about 10 years after his discharge. He began his association with Detroit Repertory Theatre around 1970. Besides his brother, Mr.

Dear and Mrs. Nancv Heed. Seven hearty laugh that was very contagious, the kind that came right up from the toes," said Patty Peek, who met Mrs. Maas 16 years ago at a cystic fibrosis camp. "She'd see the humor in situations, in her illness and use it to carry her through all the hassles of the disease." Mrs.

Maas of Madison Heights was a 1982 graduate of Warren High School and attended Macomb Community College. The Detroit native was an active member with the all-volunteer Michigan Pulmonary Disease Camp which provides camping experiences for children with cystic fibrosis at Camp Onkoi Benek, near Battle Creek. Her loves were simple, said Terry Maas, her husband of six years and two days. She loved the camp, growing flowers especially African violets their two dogs, "and me," he said. He knew that she would die young, so every moment was precious, he said.

She had planned her funeral, right down to the five rock 'n' roll songs that would play, and the pink with white lace dress she would wear. She told her husband to buy an inexpensive casket so he could throw a party for their friends after the funeral "She was just a remarkable woman, unbelievable. She had control over everything. That's one of her things: being organized and ready for anything," Terry Maas said. She was on a long waiting list at a Pittsburgh hospital for a double lung transplant, Terry Maas said.
