succeed in this State by a Urge majority varying from 15 to 25000 and judg ing from the large and enthus astic meetings field and being held all over the State I cannot doubt but such will be the result Let but ihe same feel ing' actuate and cotrol tbe delegates who are soon to meet in State Convention to nominate a Gover nor and Lieutenant Governor for tbe support of the Democracy of Ahis gels ile nomination will receive the enthusafeyc and united support of the entire Democracy of New York and when they are united they are always invincible and victorious I have met here a great number of tho tnost influential and sagacious politic ans resid ing in different section of this stale and they 'all speak in the insist confident terms of carrying the State for the Democratic ticket by a large majority eeling much anxiety on the subject I have taken great pains to inform myself and have had many conversations with leading whig politicians of the State and have'in view of all the information ean obtain settled down to tho Ivonext conclusion thatVew is certain for the Demoarat cc ndidates by a majority not less than 10 or 12000 at the' low est calculation' 5 tf I have already extended this letter over a much larger space than intended when 1 I wanted to tell you of the great and glorious meeting of the Democracy on the old Oriskany bat tle ground You must however cosuit the news papers which have given a full account of I have only space to say it was all that could be de sired both in point of numbers and next to the whig ort Meigs meeting in it ex ceeded every thing I ever in the way ot political meetings Not less than 25000 persons were pres ent in my opinion Mass meetings uf the Democ racy are being held in all parts of the state And they come out with numbers and a spirit beyond all precedent and which augurs a most triumphant and glorious victory tn November next (a i GLANCE AT BY MAJ MUKCaN SHALL WE REJECT THE OER TEXAS How strange the necessity 44 I find myself at Saratoga amidst the fashions and gayilies which annually concentrate here from all quarters North America There are present some 4 or 5000 strangers congregated in this charm ing village of mineral springs Every Hotel and almost every dwelling house in the town is literal ly crowded with people During no foimer season as I am ciedibly informed has there been such a crowd of constant visitors as the present Three times a day the cars leave here for Troy and Sche nectady and hundreds take their departure in them On the return of the cars tw ice a day hundreds a giin fill them and take tbe place of those ho have left This is repealed day after day and has been ever since the warm season commenced and so it will continue for a month to come The crowd of visitors at the other fashionable watering places Sharon and Avon and at Niagara alls and Tren ton alls is proportionally large I am told by who wearttheir hair flowing over their shoulders persons connected with the rail road from Albany to I and who wear whiskers mustaches and imperials i re a re to 4 zre fs I zre off fl 1 I I Buffalo that the travel this season far exceeds that of any previous year How many of those assembled and constantly assembling here come for the benefit of their health it is difficult to say probably not one fourth the other three fourths visit Saratoga to see and be seen they come because it is a fashionable resort and for a short respite from the labor toil cares and anxieties of business More than one half of those who visit the place during the season remain only one or two days and ew remain longer than a week or ton days at a time How the visitors here all manage lo dispose of the twenty tour hours which must be lived through daily is a difficult matter to determine The daily routine of fashionableJife is something like this: At about six in the morning the thousands of visitors begin to congre gate ahoul the celebrated Congress Spring the wa ters of this spring being considered the best of any in the village and they are constantly coming and going to and from the spring until 8 the hour for breakfast at most of the hotels After breakfast the gentlemen smoke their cigars over the latest pewspapets and periodicals take a game atten pins or billiards practice shooting in the va rious shooting alenesaod not a few lose an hour or two of time as well as their moral principles be sides no email amount of cash tbe aro and Hou kite tables which disgrace most of the places of a nmsement The ladies many of the fashionables also play at billiards and ten pins most of them however remain incog uni il about half pat ten or eleven o'clock when they take their usual rides on horseback or drive with the gentlemen Jo the beautiful lake in the vicinity of the village in different directions over the fine roads and through the delightful country which surrounds Saratoga At two they dine after dinner they sleep until 6 tbe hour for tea after 1 dare not un dertake to describe to tbe brilliant and en cban ing sight presented every evening in the draw ing rooms ot the different principal hotels I have the poetry of feeling and of thought sufficient per haps to enable me to do so but ihen a wite and a family of children at home occupy too much of my mind and very naturally lake from me the poetry of expression Suffice it lor me lo say that a brigh ter rnore numerous and more lovely galaxy fa tnale beauty intelligence and Juviloess cannot be found upon the gfone than shines forttynighilv at the drawing rooms of these hotels If the bachelor editor of the ree Press and Advertiser and sun dry others of my bachelor friends in your city I now have in my minds eye would only of ah evening lo the public parlourof the US Hotel or Union Hall cr any other of the fashionable Ho tels of the place and see the beautiful and bewitch ing laces and follow with his eye of course the graceful forms constantly passing before hrrn me thinks unless their hearts are cased in 'triple steel loves dart would reach them They could not re sist the soft and tender passion if they would The witching grace the beautiful lovlinesa which speaks in the bright and rougish eye and the joyous laugh and the animated and intelligent conversation would hold their hearts their souls every faculty capiive in spi of themselves Why had it not been for my oldest son who accompanies me and who every moment is calling to i fear should have fallen in love and declared myself to a hundfe1 pretty girls here ere this Gn behalf of the patrons and subscribers of the ree Press and Advertiser demand that the bachelor editors visit Saratoga and gel introduced to the ladies vis iting here from all parts of the that done they will fall in love and miuf get married The con sequence then will be that they will feel and act more friendly towards each other they will think better and chaster will write better and purer and more spirited will feel better look belter and will add something lo the society in which they live and may do something towards increasing the census of Michigan in 1850 The other young' bachelors seeing the delightful change produced in tbem will soon follow theu example S'o mote it be I do not perceive that the fashions are materially different from those of Detroit except that the tip I top fashionable ladies here wear larger bustlA than ours and here too they so wear them that they encircle almost the entire waist The most dis tinguished men now here are Ex President Van Bu ren Att Gen Nelson Ex Postmaster Gen Gran ger Rev Doct
