She attended Mar-ygrove College and Highland Park General Hospital's nursing school. After college, she began a career in modeling, working for B. Siegel J.L. Hudson and Detroit women's stores. Before she walked atop the Great Wall of China and rode on the backs of camels in Egypt, Kathleen Martin learned how to greet her foreign hosts in their native languages.

Her willingness to communicate helped Mrs. Martin explore dozens of exotic and historical places on six continents. The 95-year-old Bloomfield Township resident died Saturday. Traveling with her husband, Joseph Martin, she visited India, Thailand, Russia and much of Europe. Among thir journeys, the couple climbed above the clouds to the summit of the ancient Inca city of Machu Picchu in Pei'U.

"All of these different cultures she really found them interesting," said her Kathleen Martin of Bloomfield Township traveled extensively, making trips to six continents. He retired from Chrysler Corporation after 25 years and went to work for The State of Michigan, Board of Education, as chief custodian at Mason School in Grosse Pointe Woods and retired from there in 1979.
