After service, he settled into the Detroit area, where he met Rita, and earned his degree in electrical engineering and design at the University of Michigan. A natural problem-solver, he became enamored of automobiles and design, serving the Ford Motor Company for over 35 years as a senior design manager. An avid reader and gardener, he also took great interest in community service and education, acting as an advisor on the steering committees that founded Gabriel Richard Hiqh School and Wyandotte Catholic Consolidated Schools. George's generous spirit touched all who knew him, but especially his family, friends, neighbors and employees.

Selfless to a fault, he always found time to offer his generous support and guidance to all in need. His loving example lives on in those he touched. He is survived by his daughters Linda (Donn) Dumouchelle and Susan Blackford (Wayne Lockridge), his grandchildren Kevin Dumouchelle, Ryan Dumouchelle, and Keill (Sam) Graves, his sister, Hope Murphy, and by several nieces and nephews on the East and West coasts.
