Tll'imis. 23; Alberta 21 In C.t.: Ii i fa I Along the Water Front by KE.vxrrn a. Thompson IV Pre Hula Six ore-carrying vessels ordered by the Maritime Commission from the American Shipbuilding of Cleveland, will be turned over to lake carriers for operation, a commission official said Monday in Washington. In line with the request of the OPM to expand the Great Lakes ore fleet, the Commission' announced the construction award Saturday. Four of the six ships will be built at the Lorain (O.) yard of the American firm and two at Cleveland.

Monday's announcement calls for turning the new vessels over to the carriers and taking title to old vessels. The carriers will be credited with the appraised value of the old vessels toward payment on the new, but will continue to operate both for the duration of the emergency. The old vessels would be operated under a charter arrangement with the commission. After the emergency the Commission would take possession of the old ships' and dispose of them as it saw fit, Crews aboard member fleets of the Lake Carriers' Association up to -Sept. 1 Baved $1,531,242, a new high for the organization's wage-caving plan, according to the October bulletin of the association.

The previous figure was in 3937. Both in that year and in 1929 total deposits for each Reason were over the two-million mark. Increased wages and the earlier Btart of navigation this season contributed to the increase.
