The neighborhood theaters now list Elizabeth Taylor and Peter Lawford before Junie. Charlie Vidor, since his Columbia divorce, has had offers from Paramount and Metro.

AS the real-life daughter of a pioneer woman suffragist, Katharine Hepburn is right at home ribbing Spencer Tracy in "Adam's Rib" at the Adams Theater, the Adams rib for the holidays. It's a situation that might have happened in "Born Yesterday," written by Garson Kanin who wrote this screenplay with his wife, Ruth Gordon. It's mimed with superlatively dumb comedy effect by Miss Holliday, who won awards as BUlie Dawn in "Born Yesterday" on Broadway. THEREAFTER THE action alternates between the Bonners in court and at home, where they leave no doubt about their marital understanding and happiness. This is by far the sexiest picture in which these stars have been Mr. and Mrs. Miss Hepburn looks much more softly feminine than in the past.

That doesn't go for her voice, the same high-bred nasal rasp. COURT ROOM scenes are travesty without being offensive because Amanda is using every wile to defend a principle and Adam is protesting every other moment. As Attinger, Tom Ewell has a gloriously bitter and indignant scene on the witness stand. Stalwart Hope Emerson is a carnival strong woman who gives the "evidence" that finally routs Adam. Miss Holliday all but steals her scenes with dumb earnestness.

Another smart supporting role is played by David Wayne, the original leprechaun of "Finian's Rainbow," as a rather pixy neighbor of the Bonners. In love with Amanda, he plays the Cole Porter "Farewell Amanda" number and makes caustic cracks about the Bonners' home movies. This satire alone is almost worth the price of admission. NOW! Dean Open 10:45 A.M. One of the happiest transfers from stage to screen is the Technicolor musical, "On the Town," at the Downtown Theater.

It's also one of the best movie musicals ever because its story is fresh, original and played with a merry whoosh by its six stepping principals. Gene Kelly, Frank Sinatra and Jules Munshin are three sailors who come off their ship one fine morning in the Brooklyn Navy Yard. They have a 24-hour leave and want to make the most of it. LOOKING FOB dates, Kelly falls for Vera-EUen, publicized as the subway's "Miss Turnstiles' of the month. Much of the action centers on his boy-loses-girl troubles.

Sinatra is caught in the toils of Betty Garrett, as a taxi driver, who decides that he's for her. Sinatra is the sailor who wants to see the sights listed in the guide book. HELPING Kelly look for Vera-Ellen, the boys and Betty get into a museum of anthropology. There Munshin meets his date-fate in Ann Miller, lady student of ancient man who sees in Jules her caveman ideal. Miss Miller will be a happy surprise to fans for the zip of her song-and-danceability.

The others are all up to their high par. While the four are off on adventures of their own, Kelly finds Vera-Ellen. Florence Bates does an amusing character study as a tippling teacher of ballet. AFTER A round of night spots, Vera-Ellen supplies the Cinderella angle. Kelly's chase is on again until he learns the truth about "Miss Turnstiles." The picture is packed with slick dancing, song and comedy.

It ends with the girls waving goodbye to the boys as another liberty party comes ashore for a day on the town. Photographically it's almost as good as a trip to New York. H.C.B. 1 0KXd.r; BLACK I FREEPARKIN6 Mr. Hard-To- Last t.
