DEAR OVER-PROTECTED: If you can't pick and choose your dates by this time, you never can. Your choice may not always be wise but it's time you learned by your own mistakes. Young men these days just don't go for the parental inquisition. They don't mind coming in and being introduced to the parents and perhaps chatting for a few minutes but any "first degree" is out.

When your young man comes home, have him meet the folks but don't let them put him through the paces. Date him and get to know him before you make up your mind about marrying him. You sound like a fairly smart girl to me and it's time you learned to fly without Mama and Papa showing you how. MJW. Sponge Almond Fingers Now Do This DEAR MRS.

MAYFIELD: I am almost 20 years old and I never had a date until I was 18. Even now, my dates are few and far between. Let me tell how it is at my house. I have a good job with the government but my parents still feel I have no judgment. In order for me to go out with a boy I must 'first ask the boy over for fin evening.

I have to give a few days' warning to my parents, then a week to ten days after they've "interviewed" the boy, they decide whether or not I can date him. If the boy doesn't have good future prospects, they don't want to meet him at all. I guess they think I'm going to marry every boy I date. I've told them time and again, marriage is the farthest thing from my mind.

The boys and I just want to go out and have a good time. Lots of boys have asked me -out but refuse to come home and meet the folks. Now a boy in Vietnam has asked me to marry him (1 knew him in school) and 1 think I'll do just that but I would like my parents' blessing. They've never met him and I'm not going to put him through their routine when he comes home, but I am going to date him a while before I give him a definite answer. I've been told I'm very mature for my age so don't you think my parents should ease.
