Glantz said: policeman hit or harmed anyone because of them coming onto the grass. As a matter of fact, before the festival started the police were told not to u.se force except In self-defense.

No oie was hurt for going on the grass." Glantz maintains there wasn't a lot of violence and when asked, 90 percent of the people did get off the grass. "From 300 to 500 remained on the grass for the rest of the show. The people who responded to the request that they leave the grass area made their own decision. The people who chose to stay were allowed to do so." Glantz said fighting broke out at the main entrance when, "for no apparent reason some kids started throwing bottles at the police, so they had to defend themselves. Father of Philip W. of BY MIKE GORMLEY Free Pi-mi staff Writer Toronto is going to have a music festival. It will be properly run, have good talent and a place to operate. It's the same one that's been there for 10 years. The name is the Mariposa Folk Festival, to be held on the Toronto Islands July 24, 25 and 26.

The lineup this year includes Rambling Jack Elliot, Werle Travis, Doug Kershaw and James Taylor. The music forms to be covered range from traditional folk to New Or-, leans jazz to Indian and Eskimo music and crafts. Mariposa will go into its 10th annual showing with the same policy they've had sinre the start of the event. They wish to present "new" talent to the people. Most of them are Canadian.

Jnni Mitchell has appeared there and she returned last year along with fellow Canadians Ian and Sylvia and America's Bnez to enable the festival to enter this year's festivities with a strong financial backing, something they've never had before. Last year they didn't have enough money to have the tickets printed. Mariposa is owned and operated by the Toronto Guild of Folk Artist, a non-profit organization Incorporated under Ontario legislation. They used their new-found wealth to run a series of workshops last fall and winter In Toronto, loaned a sum of money to help the Toronto Folklore Center, and ran a series of folk music programs in a number of Toronto area schools. And with that erVa money, they've also expanded this year's Festival.

In fact, this year there will be two festivals. The second one, to be held at the same time as Mariposa and on the same site, is called Arts Festival of the Native Peoples of North America. The Festival itself will start at 10:30 a.m. each of the three days. Indian and Eskimos will take part in the formal evening concerts also, sharing the bill with Canadian, American and European performers.

Relnyerj husband of Emma (Cooper); dear nomination. It includes Sen. Charles Goodell, R-NY, however, and he is regarded by tine Democrats as vulnerable in November. Appointed by Rockefeller to succeed the late Sen. Robert F.

Kennedy, Goodell has moved a. 1 toward the a.nti-war and liberal legislative area in an effort to build a wider base. He is 44, from Ja mestown, N. Y. In the Democratic senatorial primary, Theodore Soren-sen, 42, was the choice of the Democratic Party chieftains, and the initial favorite.

A ONF-TIMK legislative assistant to President John V. Kennedy, Sorensen has sought to capitalize on the campaign slogan "John Kennedy trusted him." But critics contend this may have backfired, by denying Sorensen an lnuige of his own. Opposing Sorensen are Rep. Richard Ottinger, D-NY, Rep. Richard M.

McCarthy, NY, and Paul 'D former New York City councilman. O'Dwyer, 62, and Ottinger, 41, appeared to be Sorensen's strongest rivals, 'both of them either ahead of him or only slightly behind him, depending upon whose private poll is cited. Ottinger, a Westchester County millionaire with little previous statewide prom i-nence, is believed to have waged the strongest campaign, chiefly through the expenditure of an estimated $1 million or more for television advertising. Ottinger's spending ln fact, been a chief issue in the primary. McCarthy, 42, from Buffalo, has zeroed in on environmental pollution as his main issue.

Samuels, 50, a Canan-daigua I N.Y.I industrialist, contended that as the choice of tha Democratic Party organization Goldberg would vulnerable to anti-boss attack by Republican Gov. Nelson A. Rockefeller, unopposed for his fourth term. This has been the chief campaign issue. II CAMPAIGN between the two has been vigorous and time-consuming.

But there was little evidence that the public has been aroused. Out of 1.6 million registered Democrats, less than one-third were expected to turn out. Goldberg has the Liberal Tarty nomination also. Thus he is eligible for the November election, even if he loses Tuesday. Samuels has been seeking state office in New York since 192, He was a candidate for lieutenant governor in lORfi, but lost.
