DETROIT FREE NOV. 3, 1979 Ex-Fire Chief Edwin Heiron Free Press Staff Writer Edwin N. Heiron former chief of the West Bloomfield Township Fire Department, was an outgoing civic-minded man who took his compulsion for helping others and turned it into a career. Fisher, 79, Chrysler engineer Services for Elvin M. Fisher, 79, retired Chrysler engineer, will be at 1 p.m. Saturday at the Verheyden Funeral Home, 16300 Mack, Grosse Pointe Park. Mr. Fisher of Detroit, died Thursday at Bon Secours Hospital in Grosse Pointe.

Born in Grand Rapids, he was a Chrysler employe for 40 years and retired in 1966. He was the secretary of Regent No. 1 Retirees of the UAW and secretary of the Detroit Metropolitan Council of the Senior Citizens. His survivors include his wife, Dorothy and one son, Marshall. "He was always giving of himself to people," recalled his daughter Mrs.

Virginia Schons. "No matter who it was, if they needed anything, he did it It was very important for him to be with people." There will be a mass at 10 a.m. Saturday at Our Lady of Refuge Catholic Church, 3750 Commerce Orchard Lake. MR. HEIRON, 76, a resident of Keego Harbor, worked as a fire fighter for 40 years before retiring in 1968 as chief of the West Bloomfield Township Fire Department.

He began working as a volunteer fire fighter in 1928 as a member of the township's first fire-fighting organization. In the early days, recalled Mrs. Schons, all the kids would hurry out at the sound of a fire whistle to see her father run from the hardware store where he worked to the fire station. His fabled speed, she says was the subject of a local joke that went: "Hey, there goes Ed. Where? He just went by." He was elected to a year's term as chief of the volunteer fire department three or four times.

In 1964, he became acting chief a and in 1965 chief of the department. He helped organize and was chairman of the West Bloomfield Goodfellows in the 1960s.

He was also a former member of the Elks Lodge 810, the Pontiac Eagles, and the Loafers Club of Keego Harbor. He is survived by his wife, Alice; three daughters, Mrs. Betty Beyette, Mrs. Virginia Schons, and Mrs. Geraldine Cvaniga; one son, Edwin N.
