Trenton edged within one victory of its school record for wins in a season after handing Plymouth-Salem a 55-47 defeat Tuesday night at Plymouth-Canton. "It's been a while since we've been on top of Salem," Trojanettes coach John Biedenbach said. "I'd never beaten a Fred Thomann team in six tries until now." The Region II semifinal victory for Trenton (23-1) avenges a 41-39 loss to the Rocks (18-5) at the beginning of the season. Trenton will play Adrian a 48-45 victor over Belleville in the other semifinal in the final at 7:30 p.m.

Thursday at Plymouth-Canton. Salem's Jill Estey drove the lane to score with 32 seconds left to bring the Rocks to within two, 49-47. But Trenton's Kim Hoppes, Katie Mans and Stephanie Chaffin each hit two foul shots in the final half-minute to put the game out of reach. Estey finished as the game's high scorer with 25 points, nine on three-pointers. She was 11 of 29 from the field.

The Trojanettes capitalized on Salem's dismal first-half shooting to grab a 26-17 halftime lead. Trenton's pressure defense led to poor shooting by the Rocks (8 of 26). In the first game, Adrian survived a late-game charge to hold off Belleville (14-10), which trailed, 33-26, at the end of three quarters. Shelly Davis led Adrian (16-7) with 15 points. Stephanie Gubaci scored 10 for Belleville.
